Alabama vs Duke Live : Seven months since being humbled by Clemson in the College Football Playoff National Championship, Alabama’s quest to regain the title begins in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Duke on Saturday.

The Crimson Tide and the Tigers both entered the national title game in January with a 14-0 record.

A 5.5-point favorite before kickoff, Alabama was thrashed 44-16, its biggest defeat since November 2003.

Ironically, that defeat had come against an LSU team led by Nick Saban, who had never seen his team lose by more than 14 points since taking charge of the Crimson Tide in 2007.

Alabama recruited some of the best talent available this summer. At the time of writing, the Crimson Tide had secured 28 commitments, 27 of which are rated as four or five stars.

To put things into context, 12 of the top 100-ranked recruits on the 247 Sports Composite rankings have committed to Alabama, while the Pac 12 as a whole has 11.

Saban has made major changes to his coaching staff, with Sal Saunseri returning to the Crimson Tide for a second spell, while Kyle Flood joins as offensive line coach and Charles Huff and Brian Baker take on the roles of running backs coach and defensive line coach.

In terms of personnel on the field, Alabama’s hopes rest again with Tua Tagovailoa, a joint-favorite to win the Heisman Trophy this year alongside Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

In his first season as a starter, Tagovailoa finished second to Kyler Murray in the Heisman Trophy voting, racking up 3,966 passing yards and 43 touchdowns with just six interceptions, to which he added 190 rushing yards with five scores.

Tagovailoa led the Crimson Tide to the national title in the 2017 season and took his team to the championship game again last year.

The 21-year-old completed 22 of 34 passes, throwing for 295 yards and two touchdowns, but had two crucial interceptions in the first half, the first of which was returned 44 yards for a touchdown by A.J. Terrell.

On the defensive side of the ball, Alabama has lost linebacker Dylan Moses for the season with a serious knee injury. Running backs Najee Harris and Brian Robinson, wide receiver Devonta Smith and linebacker Terrell Lewis will also miss the season opener.

Injuries, however, have nothing do with their absence as Joseph Goodman of reported the quartet was suspended for missing a team function.

Even without some of its key players, Alabama should have too much for Duke.

The Blue Devils went 8-5 last season with a 3-5 record against ACC opponents and beat Temple 56-27 in the Independence Bowl.

Duke is 9-2 in season openers and has won the first game of the season in the last seven straight seasons. The Blue Devils have lost quarterback Daniel Jones, who was drafted with the sixth overall pick by the New York Giants.

That means redshirt senior Quentin Harris will take over under center, but he faces a major challenge on Saturday. None of the receivers suiting up against Alabama have posted more than seven receptions last season.

Here’s all you need to know ahead of Saturday.
